Abstract
This research aimed to explore students’ perception of using Disney animation movie as a media to their listening skill. The study focuses on three factors of perception based on theory from Robbins & Judge (2013), such as: (1) The Perceiver (2) The Target (3) The Situation. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method. the data were collected using two research instruments, such as a questionnaire and interview. The participans were 8G class students at MTsN 1 Kota Kediri filled in the questionnaire, while five students from other junior high school in all grades who had previously watched Disney animation movie selected for interview. The study concluded that in questionnaire most students in perceive factor though that Disney animation movie positively as effective learning media for their listening practice. It support with the mean scores was 71,59% students satisfactory. Then in the target factor, 72,65% students indicated satisfactory. They pointed out specific movie and scenes that really helped them learn new words and understand English better. For example they remember several line like “remember who you are” from The Lion King. The last in the situation factor, the mean scores was 75,84% students liked using Disney animation movie for listening practice more than audio recording, so it indicated satisfactory.. The interview supported questionnaire and revealed that students feel more motivated and interested in learning English when it is presented through animation movie. Under the perceive factor, students expressed enjoyment and increased motivation when learning through Disney movie. The target factor revealed that specific scenes like “The Lion King taught me phrases like ‘remember who you are’,” said enthusiastically (S1). The situation factor, most students preferred Disney animation movie than audio recording due to visual. It supported by one student said “Audio recording are hard to focus on, but with movies, I can use my eyes and ears,” said honestly (S3).
