Abstract

Maiyana, N. V. (2025). Evaluation of the English textbook Bright: An English Course 1. Thesis. Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah, State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Kediri. Advisor: (1) Nur Afifi, M.App Ling, Ph.D. (II) Dr. Toyyibah, M.Pd. Keywords: Content Analysis, English Textbook, Merdeka Curriculum. There are many English textbooks available on the market that can be used as supplementary learning materials; however, many people are not familiar with the standards of a good textbook or whether the books follow the latest curriculum. This study aims to evaluate the English textbook Bright: An English Course for SMP/MTs Grade VII, based on the textbook evaluation standards set by the Board of Standards, Curriculum, and Educational Assessment (BSKAP). The evaluation focuses on four main aspects: content, presentation, design and graphics, and the alignment between learning objectives (TP) and learning outcomes (CP) in the Merdeka Curriculum. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with content analysis to examine the textbook in a structured way. The researcher acts as the human instrument, and the object of the study is the Bright 1 textbook published by Erlangga in 2022. The data were collected through document analysis and analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the textbook meets BSKAP standards well, with a total score of 96.88%. It fulfills the requirements for content, material, presentation, design, and graphics. The learning objectives and materials are also fully aligned with the learning outcomes in the Merdeka Curriculum. The textbook shows strengths in including activities related to the Pancasila Student Profile and local values; however, weaknesses are found in the visual design, especially in the use of color. In conclusion, this textbook is a recommended learning resource, although improvements are needed in its design and supporting materials.
