Fauziyah, Nurul 2015"The Effectiveness of Using Picture Sequences to Improve the Students Skill of Writing Recount Text at MTsN Ngronggot Nganjuk State Collage for Islamic Studies (STAIN) Kediri. Advisors: (1) Burhanudin Syaifulloh, M.Ed. and (2) Moh Muhyidin, M. Pd Keywords: Effectiveness, Writing, Recount Text, Picture Sequence This study is focused on the students' skill in writing recount text. The study is conducted to know the effectiveness of using picture sequences to improve students' skill of writing at MTsN Ngronggot Moreover, the researcher chooses this topic because many students at MTsN Ngronggot have problems in writing skill, exactly to write recount text. They are still confused to start their writing Therefore, they took a long time to think just to write a few sentences. This study is a quasi-experimental research The researcher conducted some experiments by giving some treatment to the students from two groups. They are experimental group and control group that are chosen based on the recommendation of the English teacher Class VIII-4 as experimental groups and VIII-5 as control groups. Each class has 35 students, so the total number of the samples were 70 students. The researcher used the test as the instrument of the research They are pre-test and post-test that applied to the experimental and control group to collect the data Pre-test was given to the both groups. This test is given before the experiment was run Post-test was also given to the both groups The test was given in order to know the improvement of students' skill in writing recount text Based on the results of the tests for two groups showed that the mean scores of experimental groups were higher than those from the control group. Therefore, picture sequences helped the students of experimental group improve their writing skill Furthermore, the result of output of Mann-Whitney U Test calculation that showed significant value is P: 0.000 0.05. So, Ho, there is no significant difference between the mean of groups that teaching by using picture sequences and traditional technique at MTsN Ngronggot, can be rejected. It means that the students who taught by using Picture Sequences get better achievement in writing recount text than those who were not taught using Picture Sequences Based on the research findings, it could be concluded that teaching writing using picture sequences is effective to improve the students' skill of writing recount text at MTsN Ngronggot
