Abstract
Al-Ulumi, Baladiah, 2015 "The Realization of Speech Act Strategies in Apologizing Between Male and Female Students of English Department of STAINKediri", Thesis, Tarbiyah, English Department, The State College for Islamic Studies of Kediri, Advisors: (1) Dr. Toyyibah, SS, M. Pd. (2) Bahruddin, SS, M.Pd. Keywords: Speech Act Strategies. Apologizing, Male and Female Apologizing is an important thing that should every people is aware of, why? Because it can influence our social life, because people can see our personality based on the way we ask apologize. In this study, the researcher wants to know about speech act categories in apologizing that used by males and females students of English Department of STAIN Kediri. Do they perform similarities or differences between them in using these categories. The respondents of this research are 40 students, consisting of 20 males and 20 females of sixth semester of English Department of STAIN Kediri. In this research, the researcher use Discourse Completion Test which consists of six situations about apologizing to get the data. The data are then categorized based on Cohen and Olshtain (1983) apology speech act set. Based on the analyze, it can be concluded that both males and females used all of Cohen and Olshtain's strategies and they have similarities and differences in using the category of speech act, but mostly they perform different categories. They had similarities in using IFID+EXPL categories, and also in using RESP, both of them used this categories in situation 1, 3 and 4 by combining with IFID or REPR categories. In these situations both of them were sensitive about someone's feeling. Both of them had differences in using single IFID, males used more while females used it by combining with other categories. In using EXL! and REPR categories females mostly use them, different with males who use another categories in these situations. It can be concluded that there are some similarities and also the differences between males and females in using speech act categories in apologizing. From this analysis the next researchers should be more careful in gender speech act, so they can find new fact in speech act used by male, female or society because, many situations can make apologizing in everyday life. And this can also be as the reference for the next upcoming researcher in conducting speech act study.
