Nur Akhlis, M.Pd Key words: Communication, Strategies, and Communication difficulty Acquiring foreign language is one of requirements to be successful in many fields in a global era because by acquiring the language people can communicate casily all over the world. As the most used language. English has a great role in uniting people worldwide for many purposes. Many students have the difficulties in their learning, especially in English communication. One of the biggest challenges for all language learners is to speak fluently and correctly because to master speaking skill, the students must speak and think at the same time. Students cannot speak English fluently, and the students shy to speak English because they afraid have a mistake. When language learners do not know how to say a word in English, they can communicate effectively by using their hands, imitating sounds, inventing new wonds, or describing what they mean. These ways of communicating are communication strategies. This research the writer research the students strategies in solving English communication difficulties of second semester students of STAIN Kediri, The research subject is limited at the second semester students of STAIN KEDIRI in the school year 2014/2015. A total of the students is 153 students and done in the second semester students. A questionnaire is the instrument to collect information using some written-questions that must be answered in written form. The writer uses a close direct questionnaire. Result of descriptive research indicates that the students use the communication strategy in their communication activity. In this research there are two strategies: Achievement Strategy and Avoidance Strategy. In Achievement Strategy, the most strategy that the students use is Language switch. The Avoidance Strategy, the most strategy that the student use is Topic Avoidance.
