Abstract
Reading plays a crucial role in developing language skills, particularly in enriching vocabulary, which is essential for academic success. Despite its importance, there remains a research gap regarding the specific relationship between students’ reading habits and their mastery of academic vocabulary. This study aims to investigate the correlation between reading habits and academic vocabulary mastery among English Language Education students at IAIN Kediri. Employing a quantitative correlational research design, data were collected from 126 students using a reading habits questionnaire and an academic vocabulary test. The data were analyzed with the Pearson Product Moment correlation method via SPSS software to determine the strength and significance of the relationship between the two variables. The findings reveal a strong positive correlation (r = 0.675, p = 0.000), indicating that students who engage more regularly in reading activities tend to have better mastery of academic vocabulary. This suggests that consistent reading habits significantly enhance students’ ability to understand and apply specialized academic vocabulary. The study concludes that fostering regular reading habits can be an effective strategy for improving academic literacy among university students. These results have important implications for educators, highlighting the need to encourage and support sustained reading practices to bolster students’ academic vocabulary acquisition and overall language proficiency.
