Abstract

This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of songs and videos in improving students' listening comprehension at SMP Negeri 2 Gurah. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving 67 eighth-grade students divided into an experimental group taught using the song "Here With Me" from YouTube Music and a control group taught using the TikTok video "Together". Pre-tests and post-tests were administered to measure listening comprehension. Results indicated that both methods improved listening skills, but the song-based approach was significantly more effective (p = 0.000). The experimental group's mean score increased from 52.88 to 81.36, while the control group's score rose from 49.41 to 69.71. The findings suggest that songs, with their rhythmic, repetitive lyrics, emotionally engaging, easy accessibility are more effective than videos.
