Abstract
Information literacy is an important need that must be possessed by a teacher as a provider of information to his students. In accordance with the digital era, teachers are also required to actively seek information in order to create learning media that is fun and suitable for today's students. Supported by the Covid era, many teachers are trying and are forced to understand technology because they are required to present video material by making it themselves to upload on the school's YouTube channel. For almost two years, students studied at home without meeting their teachers. So, can the information/material presented by the teacher make students aware of the material? As a teacher who wants to make his students information literate, he must also be information literate first. Several researchers from year to year develop strategies to increase interest in reading, foster curiosity in seeking information and encourage people to think critically. In accordance with developing times, several researchers created the latest information literacy model, namely the empowering 8 model, which was released in 2004 by the Sri Langka Journal. According to descriptive quantitative research, the researcher collects the data each indicator of Empowering 8 model to know the teachers’ information literacy competence. Based on the Empowering 8 model as the latest information literacy model, The results of the overall analysis of data on 8 steps of empowering 8 with several indicators that have been analysed using 55 respondents, the information literacy abilities of English teachers in Kediri are categorized as good. Apart from that, there are two different percentages in the explore step, there was a result of 62.91% which showed that the English teacher was quite capable of conducting interviews with lecturers (colleagues/teachers), field visits or other external research to support information about my topic. This means that in this case, teachers tend to convey information or material in class rarely by making comparisons or exchanging ideas with fellow teachers or seniors. The point is researcher found several indicators that can measure information literacy skills based on several stages. From these indicators the researchers made several questionnaires and the results were "Good". but it would be even better if the result was "Excellent". Of course, this is a challenge for teachers to become more information literate so that they can lead their students to become information literate students.
