Abstract

In English, there are four skills that should be mastered, they are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Reading is useful for language acquisition, provided that students more or less understand what they read, the more they read, the better they get at it. Reading also has a positive effect on students' vocabulary knowledge, on their spelling and on their writing. Good reading texts can introduce interesting topics, stimulate discussion, excite imaginative responses and provide the springboard for well-rounded, fascinating lesson. This research is formulated to know how is the implementation of Reading Card to teach reading and can the use of Reading Card improve the reading skill of the first grade students of MAN Kandat Kediri. The objectives of this study are to describe the implementation of Reading Card to teach reading to improve students' reading skill and to describe whether the method can improve students' reading skill at class X MAN Kandat Kediri. The research design employed in this study is classroom action research. In conducting the research, the researcher designs some instruments to get the data, they are: a) Test is to know the students' reading ability and to see the progress of their reading ability, b) Observation checklist, to know the activities in teaching learning process at MAN Kandat Kediri, c) Field notes, employed to explain some aspects of teaching and learning activities which are not covered from observation checklist,
