Abstract
Writing is an important form of communication in day to day life. By writing skill, students can present their ideas and also express their feeling. Writing helps the students communicate with each other in their daily life indirectly. The aim of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of between teaching Scramble Technique and teaching without Scramble Technique in writing Conjunction for the first grade students of SMAN 1 Pare Kediri. The method used in this research is quasi-experiment. The population of this study is the first grade students of SMAN 1 Pare Kediri in academic year 2017-2018. Each class consists of about 36 students. The researcher chooses sample based on information from the teacher that have equal ability in writing. Therefore, the researcher takes X MIPA-4 class as the experimental group is taught by using Scramble Technique and X MIPA-5 class as the control group is taught by using without Scramble Technique. The result of this study showed that the distribution of the data in the research is normal. It can be proven by the result Kolmogorov-Smirnov test showed that the significant value (p) > alpha (α), with p (0.409) > α (0.05) in experimental group and (p) > alpha (α), with p (0.122) > α (0.05) in control group. Meanwhile, the Levene’s test showed that that p (0.783) > α (0.05). It means that the variance of the experimental and control group is equal across groups. Then, the homogeneity of regression test (slope) showed that there was no interaction between the covariate and the independent variable. It was proven by the result of p > α, with p (0.666) > α (0.05). The last assumption is there was relationship between the covariate and the dependent variable. It was proven by the result of F (1.68) = 278.819, with p (0.002) < α (0.05). It means that there is a relationship between the covariate and the dependent variable. While, the result of the output ANCOVA showed the significant value is p(0.009)<α(0.05). Because of the significant value is smaller than 0.05, there was enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis (H˳) and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) was accepted. Based on the finding, the researcher concluded that teaching writing conjunction using Scramble Technique is more effective than using without Scramble Technique.
