Abstract
Motivation of students in learning English as foreign language (EFL) classroom is often complex and difficult. It is an important contributing factor to success in foreign language learning. But, motivation have two types; integrative and instrumental motivation. So, this research is conducted to find out students’ motivation types in English language skills. This research uses survey research as the method with quantitative approach. Questionnaire sheet was used to collect the data of student’s motivation types in English language skills. This study conducted in IAIN Kediri. Furthermore, there are two types of motivation based on Gardner and Lambert’s theory, those are instrumental motivation and integrative motivation. The participants of this research are fourth semester students of English Department of IAIN Kediri. Moreover, the data analysis is using SPSS program especially using descriptive statistic. After the data had been collected and analysed using descriptive statistic through SPSS the result showed that the means score of instrumental motivation for reading is 3.76 while, the means score of integrative motivation for reading is 3.35. Furthermore, in writing skill, the mean score of instrumental motivation is 3.73 and the integrative motivation is 3.40. Moreover, in speaking skill, the mean score of instrumental motivation is 3.73 and integrative motivation is 3.52. The last, in listening skill, the mean score of instrumental motivation is 3.75 and integrative motivation is 3.65. Thus, the finding can conclude that motivation types in English language skills related to the students are instrumental motivation. So, the results for this particular students such as their high motivation instrumental motivation.
