Abstract

Writing is one of the language skills that should be taught besides the other skills. Based on the curiculum of senior high school recomended by the goverment, there are some texts which have to mastered by the students at senior high school. One of the texts is descriptive text. Descriptive text is the text which describes something, someone, situation, and etc. or write about the way persons, places, or things appear. In learning descriptive text, students have difficulties in learning it. Students may be confused what to write although they know the topic which has been given by the teacher. Therefore, in this study the researcher would apply think talk write strategy. This research is aimed to improve students’ writing skill in descriptive text of MAN 2 Nganjuk by using think talk write strategy. In this research, the researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR). This action research is conducted in one cycle. The procedure of the research consisted of preliminary study, planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. In collecting data, the researcher used writing test, observation checklist, and scoring rubric. The result of the research shows that think talk write strategy could improve students’ writing skill after 1 cycle. Preliminary study shows that less of the students could write in English. Then the implementation in first cycle shows that 91.4% of the students could pass the test. It is improved the student writing skill. Based on the result of the study, the researcher concludes that students’ writing skill can be improved by using think talk write strategy. Therefore, it is recommended that the teacher should apply think talk write strategy in teaching writing skill.
