Abstract
Nadifa, Inas. 2023. Developing Supplementary Reading Material for Tenth Grade in SMKN 1 KRAS. Thesis, English Department, Faculty of Education, Institute of Islamic Studies at Kediri, Advisor: (1) Bahruddin, M.Pd. (2) Nurul Aini, M.Pd. Keyword: Reading, Research and Development (R&D), Supplementary Reading Material, Vocational High School. Since science and technology always become better, learning resources should follow the development. Both teachers and students necessitate to chase the change of every period. Then, the development of learning material is needed. Reading skill, as the purpose of language learning, needs to obtain many concerns. This research proposes to develop new supplementary reading material of english major to facilitate students learn independently. The subject of this research was the tenth-grade students in SMKN 1 Kras. This was R n D (Research and Development) which applied 5 processes, Analyzing, Designing, Developing, Implementation and Evaluating. All data were collected through observation sheet, interview, and questionnaire. The student’s need analysis, the first step of this study, reveals some problems faced by the students. Those problems are lack of vocabularies, the less interesting book, and the limited book for the students.. Reflected to all data, the researcher design the product by providing many examples, vocabularies, and exercises. After the product was designed, it is developed into real product. There are some examples followed by vocabularies, examples, and exercises. The real product, then, was validated by the experts. In validation process, three experts gave some comments and suggestions for better product. Then, the researcher did some revision based on expert’s comments and suggestions. After that, the product was implemented to the tenth-grade students in SMKN 1 Kras. The students tried the product and gave some comments. To end the process, the researcher evaluate student’s opinion about the product. Based on the last evaluation, the researcher did not make any revision. Based on the result, the product can interest students to learn. Students can learn enthusiastically when they interested in media they used. The students state that the product has attractive design and understandable materials. Thus, the students can learn it easily. Additionally, the students can use the product as supplementary learning media to learn independently.
