Abstract

This study was aimed at improving the students’ speaking ability through snake and ladder game to the seventh grade students of MTsN II Nganjuk in academic year 2017/2018. It is because found some problems in learning proccess at MTsN II. The fact in pre-test study, the researcher found that the students of MTsN II Nganjuk have difficulties in speaking. The students could not speak about people because they are lack of vocabulary and do not have any idea to speak. So they need some ways or methods to help them improving their speaking skill. The researcher used snake and ladder game to help them improving their speaking skill ability and used classroom action research design to be implemented in this research. The required data were collected through the use of some techniques such as : observation, test, and documentation. This research is considered successful if more than or equal to 70% students of the class achieved the score greater than or equal to 71 in the students’ speaking test. In this research, there are two cycles. The first cycle consists of three meetings and the second cycle consists of three meetings too. Using snake and ladder game in learning activity can improve student’s speaking ability. Only 37% of the students in the pre-test or pre-cyle who have completed (tuntas). And it improved after cycle. 65% of the students in the cycle 1 have completed and 82% of them in the cycle 2 have completed.
