Abstract

Past learning experience refers to any past interaction, course, program, or other experience in which learning takes place, whether it occurs in traditional academic settings or nontraditional settings (outside-of-school locations, outdoor environments), or whether it includes traditional educational interactions or nontraditional interactions (students learning through games and interactive software applications). The objective of this study is to know the correlation between students’ pastlearning experiences and their English proficiency. In this research, the researcher used quantitative Research. The sample of this research are second semester students in English department students of STAIN Kediri 2018 (42 students) whereas the sample collection method is Purposive sampling method. In collecting data, the researcher used questionnaire and English achievement test as the instruments. the analysis used in this research is Pearson Product Moment analysis.. Finally, the result shows that there is correlation between students’ past learning experiences and their English achievement. It is because Sig. (2-Tailed) is 0,036 < Sig (0,05). It can be inferred that H0 can be rejected and Ha is accepted. So there is correlation between students’ past learning experiences and their English achievement. Based on coefficient correlation standard (Robert H. Koenker) ,the researcher concludes that there is low relationship between students’ past learning experiences and their English achievement.
