Abstract
Reading is crucial for learners, particularly those learning English as a foreign language. It demands intense focus to grasp essential information, and requires prior knowledge to fully comprehend the text, making it a challenging task. To explore this, the researcher investigated the strategies employed by English teachers in teaching reading comprehension at SMAN 3 Kediri. The study used descriptive qualitative research, focusing on two English teachers at the XI grade level. Data collection involved observation checklists, interviews, and documentation, with analysis through data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the teachers utilized SQ3R and ART strategies. ART (Ask, Read, Tell) aids in monitoring understanding before, during, and after reading, while SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review) helps identify main ideas and improve memory retention by engaging readers in active reading techniques. The strategies were implemented through pre-teaching, whilst-teaching, and post-teaching stages. Keywords: Teachers’ Strategy, Reading, Teaching reading
