Abstract

Nowadays, many students have a low interest in learning and also lack practice in their writing skills, causing them to have a lack of confidence and high anxiety when expressing their ideas in writing. This has an impact on the quality of the writing they produce and their ability to convey their thoughts in a clear and structured manner. Therefore, the researcher decided to conduct this study to investigate the correlation among students’ interest, writing anxiety, and writing ability at SMKN 3 Kediri. The researcher calculates data using SPSS 26.0 version to test the hypothesis that has been developed based on the problem statement through the use of quantitative design in the correlational method. The population of 10th-grade students at SMKN 3 Kediri is 389. For sampling, the researcher selected about 25% of this population, resulting in a sample size of 102 students. The first questionnaire is used to measure students' interest and the second questionnaire is used to measure writing anxiety. The test is used to measure the students' writing ability level. The findings indicate a weak correlation between students' writing ability and students' interest. A correlation coefficient of 0.351 and a p-value of 0.000 indicate that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. The correlation between writing anxiety and writing ability, with a p-value of 0.669 and a correlation coefficient of -0.030 suggests that H0 is accepted and Ha is rejected. This coefficient indicates a very low correlation between writing anxiety and writing ability. Then, the correlation between students’ interest and writing anxiety, with a p-value of 0.048 and a correlation coefficient suggests that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. This coefficient indicates a low correlation between students' interest and writing anxiety. Meanwhile the multiple correlations between students’ interest and writing anxiety with writing ability because the significance value of F change is 0.000. the value is lower than 0.05. in other words, H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted or there is a significant simultaneous correlation between students’ interest and writing anxiety with writing ability.
