Abstract

In writing a descriptive text, the students should know the rules of writing descriptive texts that is using generic structure. Furthermore, in the process of writing descriptive text, the problem frequently occurs because the text has language features relating to grammar. The purpose of this research is to find out the students’ compliance to the generic structure in writing descriptive text, to find out what errors do the students make on language features and to find out what is the dominant error on language features made by students dealing writing descriptive text. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The participants of this study are 7th grade students of class A at SMPN 1 Ngadiluwih in total 30 students. The researcher collected the data from administering writing test. Based on the result, the researcher concluded that most of the students have good identification and description as generic structure. There are 16 students who got 4 points with percentage 53.3%, there are 12 students who got 3 points with percentage 40%, there are 2 students who got 2 point with percentage 6.67%. In addition, most of the students made error in language features. They made error in simple present tense with percentage 82.78%. error of action verb with percentage 6.55%, error of adjective with percentage 5.73%. And error of specific participant with percentage 4.91%. It can be seen that the most error made by students is error of simple present tense. Moreover, no one students made error in auxiliary verb.
