Abstract

Reading skill is known as the most difficult skill and complex language skills because reading requires a level of perception and involves the process of thinking extensively. Reading is a language skill that has to be learned by the students of MTsN 7 Kediri. In fact, most of students have problem in reading comprehension. They could not reading the poetry because they have less understanding the structure of reading comprehension. The objective of this study is to find out the effectiveness of using Think, Pair, Share(TPS), Technique in teaching reading comprehension text to the students of MTsN 7 Kediri. In this research, quasi-experiment is used as research design. Quasi-experiment design is used when the investigator cannot randomly assign subjects to treatments. Such interaction may occur in a quasi-experimental design in which the experimental and control groups are not randomly selected but instead are preexisting intact groups, such as classrooms. This research is used to know the comparison between control group and experimental group. Control group is the sample research with The Power of Two Technique as the treatment in teaching reading recount text. Whereas experimental group is the sample research with TPS Technique as the treatment. In collecting data, the researcher has been used test (pre-test and post-test) and rubric as the instrument to score the test. The result of normality distribution of the data for ANCOVA was fulfilled, as evidence by p (.435) > α (.05) which means that data was normally distributes. The result of the analysis indicates that the p-value was lower than α . The interpretation of this finding is having Think, Pair, Share(TPS) Technique as a treatment in experimental group could make the quality of students’ reading recount text was better than the quality of students’ reading comprehension text by having The Power of Two (TPT) Technique as a treatment. Therefore, the use of Think, Pair, Share(TPS) Technique in teaching reading recount text to the students of MtsN 7 Kediri was effective. Based on the result of the study, the researcher concludes that Think, Pair, Share (TPS),Technique was effective in teaching reading recount text to the eighth grade students of MTsN 7 Kediri. Therefore, it is recommended that the teacher should apply TPS Technique in teaching Reading recount text.
