Abstract

In Indonesia, English as a foreign language is formally taught at schools start from elementary school until university. Speaking is one of productive skills in learning English which involves a technique to master it. Choosing interesting technique in teaching speaking will help students in improving their speaking skill. This research aims to find the effectiveness of using Show and Tell technique in improving students’ speaking skill at MTs Al Amien Kota Kediri. The method used in this research was a quantitative method and the research design was quasi experimental research. The population of this study is the seven grade students of MTs Al Amien Kediri in academic year of 2018-2019. The sample of this study is taken from seven grade student. The researcher took two classes from the same population that each class consist of 37 students. The result of the analysis shows that the students who taught using Show and Tell technique have better speaking skill than those who are taught by conventional teaching technique. The finding of this research shown that the data was normally distributed. It is proved by the Kolmogorov-Smornov Test, shows (0.745) > α (0.05). The Levene’s Test shows that experimental and control group has the same ability. The result is p (0.480) > α (0.05). Then, the homogeneity regression shows that p (0.526) > α (0.05). It means that there is no interaction between covariate and independent variable. The last assumption is the output of ANCOVA showed that the significant value was p (0.000) < a (0.05). It means that there was enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis and accepted the alternative hypothesis. Based on the findings above, it can be concluded that Show and Tell technique is effective to improve students’ speaking skill.
