Abstract

The aim of this research is to investigate and describe the effectiveness of the use of extensive listening on the listening fluency of the students grade X at MAN 4 KEDIRI using audio and reading text in English language as a foreign language (EFL). In studying a language, receptive skills come first than productive skills. In everyday life, listening is the input skill most often used. One of the media is using audio and reading text. Audio and reading text is a powerful tool in today’s classroom. It provides strong context through which to teach English. The design of this study was quasi-experimental design that divided the participants into two groups, experimental and control group. The participants of this study were 68 tenth grade students from MAN 4 KEDIRI in academic year 2018/2019. There were 34 students as experimental group by X IPS 4 and 34 students as control group by X IPS 3. The data collected using test, (pretest and posttest) and was analyzed using ANCOVA in SPSS 21 version for windows. The result show of pre-test, the mean score of experimental group was 76,18, and the control group was 70,00. In the post-test, the mean score experimental group was 88,38, and the control group was 81,91. The result of statical computation of ANCOVA show that the significance is 000. It is less than 0.05 (000 < 0.05). Since the significance value was smaller than 0.05 statically, there is enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis. It means that the students who listening by audio and reading text as the media better than the students who listening by non audio and reading text. Based on the result of the test, the researcher concludes that using audio and reading text is effective in teaching listening at MAN 4 KEDIRI.
