Abstract

P.T Barnum or Phineas Taylor Barnum is the main character in the “The Greatest Showman” movie. Barnum in The Greatest Showman was played by Hugh Jackman. The Greatest Showman movie is inspired by the imagination of P.T. Barnum, The Greatest Showman is the title of a musical drama movie that premiered in theaters worldwide in 2017. This movie tells the story of the birth of show business and tells the story of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation. The movie is directed by Michael Gracey. This research uses a qualitative method because qualitative method is in line with this research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative methods in this movie. Qualitative research is data in the form words, schemes and images. The type of the research used descriptive qualitative using content analysis. So, qualitative research is descriptive because the result of the analyzed data is phenomenon description, not numerals or coefficients about variable correlations. The writer collects the data trough observation toward the movie then comes up with a theory to account the data. Then, the writer looks for the hypothesis or theories which can explain the data collection. The results showed that the conflicts found in this movie are based on three different types: social conflict, physical conflict, and psychological conflict. The strategies for conflict management of Barnum to solve the problems found in the following categories: avoidance, pacification, competition, compromise, and creative integration.
