Abstract

Anxiety is the subjective feeling of tension, apprehension, nervousness, and worry associated with an arousal of the autonomic nervous system. In fact, anxiety is a complex multidimensional phenomenon, which involves many other independent variables. Learning Anxiety or it is known as Anxiety in Learning English describes a feeling of worry that is felt by English learners. This study aims to find out students’ anxiety levels in learning English as a foreign language. The sample of this research is 70 students. This research used a Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) questionnaire consists of 33 items, divided into 3 indicators such as “Communication Apprehension”, “Test Anxiety”, and “Fear of Negative Evaluation”. The data were analyzed by using Mucrosoft Excel. From a questionnaire that was answered by sixth semester students of English Department in IAIN Kediri, it describes that 31 (44%) out of 70 students experience “Mildly Anxious” level. The second level that is experienced by students is “Anxious”, as much 24 respondents. There is no student experiences “Very Relaxed” level. Among 3 indicators of anxiety, the most students experience is Test Anxiety.
