Abstract

Learning vocabulary is an important thing in learning English because vocabulary is a bridge to learn other skills of English. Foreign language learners, especially young learners usually do not show their best achievement in other skills due to the lack of words they have. The purpose of this study is to create an interactive and interesting media to support students to learn English vocabulary which can also be used as a learning media in classroom. This research used research and development methods to create and analyze the product developed. The process in this research used the steps proposed by Borg and Gall model which has been modified according to the research needs. There are research and information collecting, developing product, expert validation, product revision, field testing (trying out product), revising product based on field testing, finalization product. The media validator was Mr. Imam Mubarok, S.Sos.I., a Council Arts Chairman of Kediri Regency and a lecturer of Islamic Broadcasting Communication department in Tribakti Lirboyo Islamic University. The content or language validator was Mrs. Irma Machfudzoh, S.Pd., an English teacher of SD Rahmat Kediri. The finding from the research shows that the product has been created successfully based on the Dick and Carey method. The product output is an animated video with 8:05 minutes duration for 3 meetings. Based on the validators’ evaluation, the animated video is appropriate to be a medium for teaching English vocabulary for young learners especially in second-grade elementary school students. To know the feasibility of the media developed, the researcher used Likert scale to calculate the score from the validators. The score from design expert was 95%, the score from the content expert was 94%, and the score from the students was 91%. So, the average percentage score was 93% in “Very Good” category. The value of the research is obtained from the evaluation of the validators by filling out the questionnaire which is then the scores were calculated by the researcher in order to obtain the research results. The result of animated media for teaching English vocabulary that is developed can be found in YouTube platform by the link: https://youtu.be/6oeS8eKcgWk?si=VZlnGzA332p_h4jb
