Abstract
This research concerns on analyzing Fauziya Kassindja’s characteristic in her true life based novel “do the hear you when you cry” in order to find what characteristics Fauziya Kassindja has and her effort to get success during her surviving life story based on her novel “do they hear you when you cry” The researcher makes use of descriptive qualitative research design to conduct this research. The data source comes from Fauziya Kassindja’s novel “do they hear you when you cry” from which the word, phrases, sentence within the dialogue of the novel become the object to analyze. While the data collection includes reading the novel, finding and selecting the dialogue, the data analysis has three steps there are data reduction, data presentation and data verification. The research results some findings in accordance with the research problem. Fauziya Kassindja has several characteristics, according to Florence Litteur characteristic of human there are choleric consist of strong, independent, brave and hard worker, phlegmatic consist of patient, melancholy, and sanguine. It is proved by her attitude when she faces problem she can solve and get success. Meanwhile success according to Reba McEntire, need to have wish, have the ability to solve the problem that is how to find success in life. And the last is effort according John Dewey explains success there are three, first conception that effort, second "physical'' from "moral" effort, and the last accept the distinction made between moral and physical effort as a distinction of genesis, and holds that all sense of effort is sensationally determined. Fauziya’s effort for surviving her life to get success are getting asylum, and looking for lawyer in order to she gets both of them and get success in her life.
