Abstract

To teach English speaking, the teacher cannot learn using one method. Because using one method can make the students lazy to practice English speaking. Here, the contents of the thesis about a cooperative script method to increase speaking ability of the students and the researcher approve that this method can increase speaking ability. After that, the object of the study is to know the effectiveness of the cooperative script method to increase speaking ability of students in SMK PGRI 1 NGAWI. The researcher using quasi experimental to observe the students. The population of the study is the eleventh grade of students of SMK PGRI 1 NGAWI in academic 2014/2014. The researcher takes two class and each class contains 30 students. To collect data the researcher does pretest and posttest. To calculate data analysis, the researcher using ANCOVA. The research findings shows that the students who are taught using cooperative script have better score than the students who are not taught using cooperative script. It can be seen that after the researcher makes posttest to all of class. It can be proved the students who are taught using cooperative script have mean 72.93 and the standard deviation 3.433. Besides, the students who are not taught using cooperative script have mean 66.27 and the standard deviation 2.504. So, the result of ANCOVA shows that the distribution of dependent variable is normal that p 0.15 > α 0.05. Then, the homogeneity variance of both group is equal that is p 0.765 > α0.05. There is no interaction between pretest and group, as evidenced by p 0.02 < α 0.05. In the test the result Test of Between Subject Effects, the significant is 0.000 is less than 0.05, p 0.00 < α 0.05. From the data result. the null hypothesis that “There is no different in speaking ability between the students who are taught using cooperative script method and those who are not taught using cooperative script” can be rejected. And the alternative hypothesis that “The students of SMK PGRI 1 NGAWI who are taught using cooperative script have better speaking achievement” can be accepted.
