Abstract
Reading is an important habitual activity that which is done everyday, we can get so much knowlegre trough it. There are so many media that can be used to find materials that can be read everyday. Reading habit and vocabulary mastery play an important part of the students comprehension of the material. This study aimed to find out wether any significant correlation or not among students’ reading habit, reading comprehension, and vocabulary mastery. Quantitaive approach with the correlational design was chosen as the method to analyze the data on this study. The number of participants were 51 students’ of second semester English Department stutents at IAIN Kediri, simple random sampling was used as the method to chose the sample of this research since there was limitating of time to do this research. They answered 17 questionaire of reading habit, 21 questions of reading comprehension test, and 22 questions of vocabulary mastery test. To analyze the correlation, the researcher used Spearman’s Rank formula with SPSS ver. 29.0 program since the data was abnormally distributed. The findings of the study showed that each variables has the different significant (sig.) value. The significant value of the correlation between students’ reading habit and reading comprehension was 0.797, and the coefficient correlation value was -0.037, it means that Ho is accepted and Ha is rejected Then, the significant value of the correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension was 0.09, and the coefficient correlation value was 0.361, it means that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected, and there was a low positive correlation between those variables. The significant value of the correlation between students’ reading habit and vocabulary mastery was 0.561, and the coefficient correlation value was 0.83, it means that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. It can be said that reading habit is not affected to the students’ reading comprehension, but vocabulary mastery is affected to students’ reading comprehension. The higher students’ level of reading habit, does not have any correlation to the higher students’ level of reading comprehension. But the higher students’ level of vocabulary mastery, will affect the higher students’ level of reading comprehension. In conclusion, there is no correlation between students reading habit and reading comprehension. There also no correlation between students reading habit and vocabulary. Then there is correlation between students vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension.
