Abstract

There have been a lot of studies on correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension. However, study about correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension based on gender differences is rare undertaking. Therefore aimed of this study is to find out how is the correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension based on gender differences on the second year students of SMAN 7 Kediri in academic year 2020/2021. The population of this study was the eleventh grade students of SMAN 7 Kediri in academic year 2020/2021. This study was involved 65 students which 22 students are male and 43 students are female. In collecting the data, this study used two instrument, which were a test consist of 20 questions multiple-choices of vocabulary test and 20 multiplechoices questions for reading comprehension. The result showed that there was a positive correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension and there is no correlation between male student’s vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension then for correlation between female student’s vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension there is significant correlation. This indicates that female students outperformed their male counterparts in correlation between student’s vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension. In other words, it can be stated that gender differences affect in this study
