Abstract

Anxiety is a feeling of tension, apprehension, worry and also being threatened as a response to a particular situation. It is to prevent us from danger. Anxiety that accompanies listening comprehension is called listening anxiety. It occurs when students get difficult listening task or they have false judgment that they have to understand every word that they hear. Furthermore, anxiety can affect listening comprehension achievement. Listening comprehension achievement is students’ mastery on listening which is measured by many ways such as test score. The objectives of this research are to know the students’ listening anxiety level, students’ listening comprehension achievement, and the correlation between listening anxiety and listening comprehension achievement. This research uses correlational quantitative research as the research design. Then, the instruments of this research are Foreign Language Listening Anxiety Scale Questionnaire that developed by Kim J.H and Listening Mid Term Test Score List that gotten from the lecturer. While the sample in this study is 84 second semester students of English Department of STAIN Kediri. The findings of this research are the listening anxiety level, the listening comprehension achievement, and the correlation between listening anxiety and listening comprehension achievement. The first is there are 15 (18%) students belong to high anxiety, 64 (76%) students belong to medium level, and 5 (6%) students belong to low anxiety. This result shows that mostly, English Department Students experience medium level of listening anxiety. The second is there are 57 students that achieve good listening comprehension achievement, 16 students achieve fair achievement, 8 students get poor achievement and 3 students are failed. The last is, there is no correlation between listening anxiety and listening comprehension achievement of English Department Students of STAIN Kediri.
