Abstract

Writing is one of tools to communicate each other. It is a language skill that people have and use to express their ideas or opinion. Writing is one of language skill that should be learned by the students of SMAN 1 Plosokaten.Based on syllabus the students are required to learn some genre types such as Narrative,Spoof , Hortatory Exposition, etc. In fact, most of the students have problem related to writing abililty. They are still confused of how toorganize their ideas and develop their idea into paragraph.The Objective of this research is to improve the students’ writing skill on narrative text at the eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Plosoklaten by using Clustering Technique. In this research, the researcher used Classroom Action Research. This action research was conducted in one cycle. The procedure of the research consisted of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. In collecting data, the researcher used observation checklists, field note, writing test and scoring rubic. The procedure used in implementing clustering technique into writing consists of prewriting, drafting, revising, and publishing. The result of the research show that clustering technique could improve students’ writing skill. The students interest in writing improved after the implementation of clustering technique. The students were active during the writing activities. The improvement was shown by the increase of the percentage of the students’ achievement in writing a narrative text. the percentage of the students who get score > 75 in pre-cycle was 54% (11 students). And the students who get score > 75 in cycle was 100% ( 22 students). The percentage of the student’ achievement in test higher than pre-test. Based on the result of the study, the researcher conclude that students’ writing skill can be improved through clustering technique. Therefore, it is recommended that the teacher should apply clustering technique in teaching writing.
