Abstract
ABSTRACT FIRDAUSI, HILYA AULIA. 2021. Theme Rhyme and Thematic Progression In Donald Trump’sSpeachAndTranslation.Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah, State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Kediri. Advisors: (I) Dr. Agus EdiWinarto,M.Pd, (II) Mohammad Muhyidin,M.Pd. Key words: Theme-Rheme, Thematic Progression, Worldview, Speech. This study is about theme rheme and thematic progression in Donald Trump and its translation. And this study focused on how to translate puts the differences on the worldview between the source language and target language text. The difference in worldview itself can be found by analyzing each sentence chosen by the translator. The aim of this research is to identify what makes differences in worldview in theme rheme and thematic in Donald Trump's speech and its translation. This study used Theme-Rheme and Thematic Progression as proposed by Halliday, which is developed by Gerotand Wignell (1994) and Eggins (2004). The study shows that both texts use Participants as the most frequently used theme. However, the text in the target language considers Participants much more important than the text in the source language does. Meanwhile, the analysis of thematic progression shows that both texts use Theme Reiteration. It can be concluded that both texts tend to be monotonous because Donald often begins the speech with the same words the other side it is not proven that native speakers of English are more disciplined with time than native speakers of Indonesian.
