Key words: Hand Puppet, Speaking Skill, Imagination Level Speaking is the most single important aspect of learning a forign language, and success is measured in term of the ability to carry out the a conversation in the language. In case, not only the students are shy to try to practice their speaking but also teachers do not apply interesting techniques and media in the teaching and learning process. The research was aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using hand puppet in teaching speaking for students having different imagination level. This research applied quantitative research that was classified as quasi experimental design. There were three variables in this research, they were hand puppet as independet variable, speaking skill as dependent variable and imagination level as moderator variable. The population of this research was the fifth grade of MI Hidayatus Shibyan Sumberjo. They are 5 A as control group and 5 B as experimental group. There researcher used speaking test and questionnaire for this research. Then, The scores of pretest, posttest and questionnaires were calculated by using ANCOVA in IBM SPSS 26. In the result of pre test, the mean score of experimental is 53.97 while the mean score of control group is 55.00. In the post test, the mean score of experimental is 79.22 while the mean score of control group is 74.68. Then, the result of ANCOVA assumption shows that the distribution is normal that is .071 for pre test and .200 for post test. Then, the homogenity variance of both groups are equal that is .228 > .05 and there is no interaction between covariate and independent, as evidenced by .689 > .05. Then, there is a relationship between covariate and the dependent variable, .014 < .05. Then, the result of imagination level at experimental and control groups in average and high imagination level. There is no low imagination level for both groups. Then the result of statistical computation of ANCOVA states that the result is significant .005 < .05. Since the significant value is lower than .05 statically there is enough evidence to reject null hypothesis, then the alternative hypothesis is recieved. It means that teaching speaking skill by using hand puppet is effective for students having different imagination level.
