Abstract

This research is designed to describe teaching strategy for autistic students at Karunia Autism Education Kediri. The subjects of the study are the entire of autistic Students, Headmaster, The teacher. The instruments study consists of observation, interview, and documentation. This research tries to investigate the characteristics of autistic student at Karunia Autism Education Kediri; the teaching strategy for autistic student in Karunia Autism Education Kediri; and The Difficulty that face by the teacher at Karunia Autism Education Kediri. This study is descriptive qualitative research case study with a naturalistic approach to investigate the three statements above. The students of Karunia Autism Education have disability in social interaction, attitude, and interest. They have also disability in communication and languages. The autistic students are not concern about sound, sight, or every event that involve them selves. They avoid or do not response with social contact. The objectives of teaching autistic students build the students attitude and behavior. The result of this study shows that the strategy of teaching autistic students at Karunia Autism Education Kediri is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or Loovas. It is used because ABA curriculum is structured, clear and evaluated. The teachers can monitor the development of students. ABA can change autistic students attitude. Some of autistic students could study normally in regular school by this strategy. Teaching autistic method is one on one (individually). There are two prosedur of ABA. They are Discrete Trial Teaching (DTT) and No-No-show. There are some of difficulties to the teaching autistic method, such as; giving appropriate instruction to the autistic students; the parents seldom have good attention to the development of his/her child; facing autistic students when he/she get tantrum (get temper) in teaching learning process.
