Abstract

This research focused on identifying and translating slang words in the movie "Back to the Outback." The objective was to determine the types of slang translation and the strategies used in the movie's dialogues. The research used the translation study method, collecting data from English subtitles on Netflix. Two types of slang words were identified: primary slang (33 instances) and secondary slang (6 instances). The translation strategies included using more general words, neutral expressions, cultural substitutions, paraphrasing with related and unrelated words, and omission. The findings revealed that primary slang was the dominant type, and the main translation strategy involved paraphrasing with unrelated words.
