ABSTRACT lan N. (2022). An Analysis of Idiomatic Translation Found in Toy 3 Movie Subtitle. Thesis, Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah, IAIN Kediri. Advisor: (1) Drs. Agus Edi Winarto, M.Pd and (2) Nur Afifi, M.App.Ling. Keywords : Translation, Idiomatic expression, Toy Story 3, Translation Strategies It is important for translators to understand about idiomatic expressions. The purpose of this study is to determine ihe types of idiomatic expressions and translation strategies found in English and Indonesian subtitles in Toy Story 3 movie. This study uses a gualitative descriptive method. Therefore, researcher uses movie dialog subtitles as primary source. Also, movies with English subtitle will be used as secondary matet "The researcher uses Femando's (1996) theory is used to classify the types of idioms, while Baker's (1992) theory is used to categorize translation strategies, then 10 discussing the findings, and lastly to drawing the conclusion. Researcher found 30 data of idiom terms. They are types of idioms aceording to Fernando with 3 types of idioms, namely pure idiom, semi idiom and literal idiom. Then translation strategies according to Baker, namely similar meaning and form, similar meaning but dissimilar form, translation by paraphrase, and translation by Based on the analysis and its findings types of idiom, the rescarcher discovered those 7094 of pure idioms, 13,396 of semi idioms, and 16,726 of literal idioms. Moreover, the answer translation strategies of idiom show that 1096 of similar meaning and form, 6,726 of similar meaning but dissimilar form, 8096 of translation by paraphrase, and 3,396 of translation by omission. Therefore, the researcher concludes that the most common types of idioms found are pure idioms with 7026 data. While, the most widely used translation strategy by translators is translation by paraphrase with 8096 data.
