Abstract

ABSTRACT LESTARI, AYU PUTRI. 2018. The Correlation Between English Department Students’ Motivation in Learning English and Their Intensive Course Achievement at IAIN Kediri, English Department, Faculty of Education, State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Kediri. Advisors: (I) H.Burhanudin Syaifulloh, S.S, M.Ed., (II) Dr. Toyyibah, S.S, M.Pd. Key word: Motivation, Intensive Course, Achievement, Learning English This study focused on The Correlation Between English Department Students’ Motivation in Learning English And Their Intensive Course Achievement at IAIN Kediri. The objective of this study is to find the correlation between English department students’ motivation in learning English and their Intensive course achievement and to find the motivation of English department students’ that have a big influence in their studying and their Intensive Course achievement. The subject of this research is the students at second semester of English department IAIN Kediri in the academic year 2017-2018. They are fresh graduate from Intensive Course program and already have a new experience and knowledge toward English learning. This is quantitative survey research that used expost facto design and the participants were given the questionnaire with 24 items to examine their motivation. This research also using Intensive course score to know the achievement. There is a correlation between motivation and achievement. The result of this study, based on Pearson correlation the data of Intrinsic motivation is .583 and also based on Pearson correlation the data of Extrinsic motivation is .538. The Intrinsic motivation have stronger influence toward the Intensive course achievement than Extrinsic motivation. From the result of testing for ANOVA, all the assumption are met for the calculation. On the finding, it can processed with ANOVA analysis. To answer the question that is formulated on this study, to verify the hypothesis of this research. The result of computation assumption of intrinsic motivation, the result of significant value is 0,046 it is less than 0,05 and in assumption of extrinsic motivation the result of significant value is 0,057 it is higher than 0,05. So, it can conclude that the null hypothesis (H0) can rejected with enough evidence with showing the significant value of intrinsic significant value less than α=0,05.
