Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, State Islamic Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Kediri. Advisors: Bahruddin, S.S., M.Pd. and Dewi Nur Suci, M.Pd. Keywords: translation techniques, translation quality, assertive illocutionary acts. It cannot be denied that English has also contributed to having a tremendous impact on the sphere of international-based entertainment, the example is digital comics. The international-based digital comics with English as the main language requires the presence of translator to provide dialogue texts in the readers’ respective language or the language where their readers come from. Translators are required to be aware of translation techniques since it also affect the quality of translation product. The dialogue texts in comic contain speect act that is categorized into several types. One of them is assertive illocutionary acts; which that kind of illocutionary act should not be translated arbitrarily since it contains the truth, actual intention, opinion, ideas of the speakers. Thus, the translators must pay extra attention to translate the assertive utterances because they are closely related to the speaker’s thoughts. The objectives of this research are to identify the functions of assertive illocutionary acts, the translation techniques used to translate those assertive utterances, and the influence of translation techniques on the quality of Indonesian translation which comprises accuracy, acceptability, and readability. This research is conducted using descriptive qualitative method. The units of data in this research are assertive utterances and the score of translation quality from research participants. This research uses webtoon comic entitled Siren’s Lament to gain the data because it has 7.7 million readers which also means that the translator has a big responsibility to produce qualified translation product in order to avoid misperception or inconvenience from these millions of readers. The data analysis is also done during the process of collecting the data. The total assertive functions found in this reasearh is 189 out of 184 data: saying/stating (83), asking (44), informing (38), explaining (11), convincing (8),justifying (3), and doubting (2). Next, there are 12 types of translation techniques applied to translate those assertive utterances with the total frequency of 304: literal translation (92 times), modulation (79 times), linguistic amplification (26 times), linguistic compression (23 times), transposition (18 times), variation (18 times), amplification (14 times), adaptation (14 times), particularization (7 times), established equivalent (5 times), borrowing (5 times), and generalization (3 times). Meanwhile, the total average score of translation quality assessment is 2.55 of 3.00. It means the quality of Indonesian translation of Lyra’s assertive utterances is moderate which includes less accurate, less acceptable, and less readable.
