ABSTRACT Ulfa, Ma Makna, 2022. Simple Present Tense Errors of University pakean SAY Writing. Thesis, Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah, State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Kodli, Advisors: (I) Nur Afifi, M.App.Ling., Ph.D, (1) Nurul Aini, Keyword imple present tense, grammatical errors, university students', essay writing According to the definition, basic present tense faults produced by college students while writing essay should be solved by examining each student's essay writing and identifying the most common errors made by students. The aims of this study are to find out the pattern of errors in the use of simple present tense in essay writing made by the 3rd semester of English Education Department students, and to find out the errors in writing an essay by students commonly found in the 3rd semester of English Education Department students. This research uses a gualitative approach to analyze the researeh's iss with two data collection technigues, namely the researcher herself and the writing documentation. The research collected the data from the 3th semester of English Education Department in Academic Writing course, academic year 2020-2021, at IAIN Kediri as the object of the research. The findings showed that the researcher stopped at the student 11 since the data redunancy was appeared. From the data redunancy, it has found that the pattern of the errors appeared 37. The researcher commonly found that most of them appeared in 12 errors (3804) were the errors in subject-verb agreement, specially by the subject breakfast. In addition, the error in double main verbs appeared 5 ertors (2274). Next, the error in tense of subject-verb agreement appeared 5 errors (1596). The emor in noun clause as subject agreement had 1 error. The gerund as subject agreement had 2 error. The gerund as subject of the sentence had 1 errors. The gerund as adverbial noun had 1 error. The object-verb agreement had 1 error. No Yerb of a sentence had 2 error. Double subjects in a sentence had 3 error. Passive Voice had 1 error. Due to the complexity of the forms and uses of simple present tense, third-semester English Education Department students at IAIN Kediri find it difficult to write an essay using simple present tense for one of their college assignments.
