Abstract
This study is conducted because the writer is interested in how far Morrie’s suggestion can influenced to change Mitch’s character in novel Tuesday with Morrie. The researcher uses this novel because it contains many suggestions that are good to motivate students. In this research, the researcher limits the study of Mitch’s character. The object of this research is the novel Tuesday with Morrie. The writer uses descriptive qualitative as the research design. The instrument is the writer herself. The researcher becomes the data collector and the interpreter. The Primary data is taken from the novel Tuesday with Morrie includes the paragraphs, sentences, quotations, and the dialogues in the novel. The secondary source includes theories, comments or opinions about this novel, and any others data that is related to the primary source. In analyzing the data, the writer uses some theories. They are humanistic theory by Abraham Maslow and psychoanalytic theory by Sigmund Freud. After analyzing the obtained data, the writer finds that Mitch’s character change to be a better person influenced by Morrie’s suggestions. Before he is being suggested, Mitch is workaholic, selfish, ambitious, cold-hearted, coward, and irreligious. Then after being suggested he becomes caring person, loving person, religious, and brave. Based on the researcher findings, it is suggested for students to ask suggestion from their teacher. And for the teacher it is suggested to pay more attention for their students because Teacher’s words and suggestion gives much influences to their students.
