Abstract
This study aims to find out the translation techniques used in abstract translation of education journal Premiere Educandum. This study focuses on on the translation techniques in the ten translated journal abstracts of PGRI Madiun University, using the theory by Molina and Albir. They are borrowing, calque, literal translation, amplification, reduction, transposition, modulation, discursive creation, established equivalents, literal translations, descriptions, generalization, linguistic amplification, linguistic compression, particularization, substitution, variation and compensation. In this study, the researcher also the dominant translationtechniques used in abstract translation of education journal Premiere Educandum. This study is conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data were derived from the journal abstractPremiere Educandum: Journal Of Basic Education And Learning by PGRI Madiun University both in Indonesian and English. There are some steps to analyze the data. The first step is collecting the data by reading abstracts in Indonesian and English. Then, the researcher identifying the translation techniques applied in translating in each sentence and phrase through using translation theory proposed by Molina and Albir‘s. The researcher compiling data and analyze it. The data will be classified on each type, and provide its description according to the translation techniques proposed by Molina and Albir‘s theory and then making a conclusion about it. The result shows that the researcher found eight types of translation technique that are applied by journal writers to translate Indonesian abstract into English. They are borrowing (14 occurrences 17%), calque (5 occurrences 6%), literal translation (33 occurrences 39%), transposition (7 occurrences 8%), modulation (5 occurrences 6%), reduction (10 occurrences 12%), amplification (7 occurrences 8%), and establish equivalent (3 occurrences 4%). The researcher also found the most dominant technique used by the writer is literal translation (33%), which is translating an expression in source language in the word of words into the target language. This technique occurs in the abstract because there are many sentences which has similar structure so that the writers are possible to use this technique.
