Abstract

Keywords: Method, Two Stay Two Stray Method, Speaking Skill Speaking is one of the important skills to be learned because it becomes global language and compulsory subject in senior high school. Pronunciation and vocabulary are two aspects needed in learning a language. Because long pandemic, the teacher and the students cannot meet face to face in the class so, they rarely to speak in English. Therefore, the aim of this research to examine if there was significant difference in achievement between students who were taught by using Two Stay Two Stray method and they were taught by using different method. Two stay two stray is one of the cooperative learning activities in which students work in a team. There are two students as host and two students as guest. The researcher used quantitative method with quasi-experimental research design. There were two classes as experimental and control group. Experimental group was taught by using Two Stay Two Stray and Control group was taught by using group discussion. The researcher used purposive sampling technique to determine sample. The population at tenth grade students of Islamic Senior High School 4 Kediri was 347. The researcher took X IIS 2 consisted of 34 students as control group and X IIS 4 consisted of 32 students as experimental group. The data were collected from giving pre-test, applying treatments and giving post-test. Then, the data was analyzed by using Mann Whitney U test in SPSS. The findings of this research showed the experimental group’s mean post-test rank was 39.95 and control group’ was 27.43, indicating that the students who were taught by using Two Stay Two Stray method obtained high score than the students who were taught by using group discussion. when the aspect of pronunciation and vocabulary were compared. The vocabulary aspect has a higher average score than the pronunciation aspect. The degree of significance was 5% (= 0.05) and Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) showed 0.005 which was less than 0.05. It indicates there was a significant difference in student’s achievement between experimental group and control group. Thus, Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. It can be concluded that Two Stay Two Stray method is effective. This method has been successful in improving student’s speaking skill at tenth grade of Islamic Senior High School 4 Kediri.
