Keywords: Transposition, Subtitle, Raya and The Last Dragon Movie There are various languages in the world. In order to understand one language and another,translation is needed. Translation techniques are often used in the world of cinema, especially in a literary work such as movie. In a movie, there are tons of communication between characters that would help the audiences to understand the storyline in the movie. So, translation is useful in the world of cinema especially if the movie that watched by viewers who do not use their mother tongue. Therefore, the present study aimed at: 1) analyzing the types of transposition procedures which is found in Indonesian subtitle of Raya and The Last Dragon movie; and 2) analyzing the possible reason why those type of transposition is being applied by the translator. This study is descriptive qualitative study. The source of data is the Indonesian subtitle of Raya and The Last Dragon movie by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. In this research, the instrument that the writer uses is note-taking. In collecting the data, the researcher watched the whole movie and read the Indonesian subtitle carefully and identified the data based on the types of transposition procedures. Furthermore, the researcher analyzed the data by giving description and explaining the reason. It is known that there are four kinds of transposition procedures according to Rochayah Machali namely transposition type 1, transposition type 2, transposition type 3, and transposition type 4. Type 1 of transposition is a translation procedure which is involving intra-system shift such as English plural nouns become singular in the target language; adjective repetition which represent an implicit variation of adjective by pluralizing the noun; and structure shift such as “Adjective + noun” becomes “Noun + adjective” in target language. Then, type 2 of transposition is involving grammatical structure shift such as transpose passive voice into ordinary sentence. Next, transposition type 3 is involving equivalence of sentence because it sounds unnatural if it is tranlated literally such as noun/noun phrase becomes verb; Adjective + noun becomes Noun + noun; reduced clause; adjective + noun become noun + clause; and class shift which means transposing word class from SL to TL. Moreover, there is transposition type 4 which has purpose to fulfill lexical gap from SL to TL by using grammatical structure such as textual tool which signs a focus point that is uttered by using grammatical construction for the TL; and unit shift. Based on the finding, there are 117 data of transposition in total which is separated into 79 data of transposition type 1; 0 data of transposition type 2; 8 data of transposition type 3; and 30 data of transposition type 4. Based on the book entitled “History of the English Language”, plural nouns denote masculinity. While Raya and The Last Dragon movie itself is a movie which is full of battle in entire movie. It is a reason why the first sub-type of transposition type 1 has high percentage existence in this research. On the other hand, the translator probably applied this procedure to reduce redundancy. Then, the third sub-type of transposition type 1 is Adjective + Noun become Noun + Adjective in TL. It may be applied because there is character depiction in a movie which means it needs noun phrase to depict the character in whole movie. However, transposition type 2 is not found in this research. Next, the first sub-type of transposition type 3 is noun/noun phrase become verb in TL. A combination between this two word class is called noun phrase. If this sentence is rendered literally, the meaning becomes nonsense. Based on this short analysis, reseacher concludes that it is a possible reason why the translator using this type of transposition. Next, the second sub-type of transposition type 3 is “Adjective + noun” becomes “noun + noun” in Indonesian. It is happened because each language has its own structure. Moreover, there is no finding about third and fourth sub-type of transposition type 3. Furthermore, the fifth sub-type of transposition type 3 is class shift. According to Muhammad Aulia Taufiqi in his journal entitled “The Influence of Class Shift on Achieving Semantic Meaning in the English-Indonesian Translation of Yule‟s Pragmatics” , he stated that class shift can be occured anytime. This also happens in the case of achieving semantic meaning. It is purely influenced by the translator itself in how the translator translates the source language into the target language. Next, Catford stated that there are two factors that cause translation shift, namely linguistics factors and cultural factors. Linguistically, a shift can be formed due to the concrete definition of objects and the abstract meaning of word. On the other hand, shift also occur due to cultural influences when a language component only applies and understood by a group of speakers who have the same cultural background. Based on this statement, the researcher conclude that the first sub-type of transposition type 4 can be happened because of linguistics factors while the second sub-type of transposition type 4 can be happened because of cultural factors. Furthermore, this study is still limited as it only covers the transposition procedure found in the Raya and The Last Dragon movie without any further analysis. It is recommended for the future researcher to also focus on other translation procedures, not only transposition.
