Abstract
This study reports an action research on the use of pictures series technique to improve writing skill seven grade students of SMP ISLAM AL- AZHAR Kediri. Based on the research, the main problems faced by the students in writing skill are they are difficult to write and string up the word. To overcome this problem, the researcher interested in conducting a research dealing with procedure text by using picture series. The research design used in this study is Classroom Action Research (CAR). It was conducted in two cycles, from the 30th of March to the 29 of April 2017. Each cycle consisted of three meetings. The steps of the research were reconnaissance, planning, action and observation, and reflection. The object of this research were 23 students of VII class. The data were in the form of qualitative data. In collecting data, the researcher used questionnaire, interview, observation checklist, and writing test. The criterion of success is made by the researcher by considering the minimum mastery criterion or kriteria ketuntasan minimum at the school. The minimum mastery criterion or kriteria ketuntasan minimum was 75. The research result showed that there were 95% of students got score under 75. And the average score is at least 75 in cycle one. In cycle two there was 87% of students got score above 75%. This technique brought significant improvement on students’ involvement and achievement. Based on the criteria of success. If at least 80% of student got score at least 75. And the average score is at least 75. Finally, it is recommended for the English teachers consider the picture series in teaching and learning process to be implemented in their class to improve their students’ English writing skill. And it is hope that the picture series is implemented for the student continously.
