Abstract
Code switching is common phenomenon is Indonesia. It occurs when bilingual people switch their speech from one code to another. It also happens in educational areas. Using code-switching by the lecturers can help students to get language natural environment and ensure the intended successful learning. This study is aimed to determine the correlation between code switching used by the lecturer and learners’ learning success in reading comprehension 1 class of English department at STAIN Kediri. This study uses correlation study to answer the research question. The population of this research are 199 students from second semester who attend reading comprehension 1 class at STAIN Kediri. While the total sample is 30% from the population. It gets 60 students from second semester. The instruments used in this research are questionnaire and documentation of students’ reading score. This study proposed two hypothesizes and the hypothesis is tested by using product moment correlation and use SPSS software version 21 to calculate the data. The result shows that the code switching used by the lecturer have the value mean of 38,38. And the value mean of learners’ learning success is 84,64. The sig of pearson correlation is 0,004. Based on the table of Pearson product moment it included in the range 0,00-0,199. It means that there is very low correlation between code switching used by the lecturer and learners’ learning success, but the correlation is very low, so the correlation is ignored.
