Abstract

Quraish Shihab, Qur'anic Studies And Tafsir Program Faculty Of Ushuluddin And Da'wah State Islamic University Syekh Wasil Kediri, 2025 Keywords: Story of Prophet Yunus, Tafsir Al-Mishbah, Wisdom The Qur'an contains stories of prophets that are rich with moral values and spiritual lessons for humanity. One important story is that of Prophet Yunus, which contains fundamental wisdom about patience, steadfastness (istiqamah), optimism, and repentance that is highly relevant to the problems of modern life, particularly the phenomenon of despair and moral decline among the younger generation. This research aims to analyze M. Quraish Shihab's interpretation in Tafsir Al-Mishbah of the verses concerning the story of Prophet Yunus and to identify the wisdom contained therein along with its relevance to contemporary life contexts. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with library research methods and maudhu'i (thematic) analysis of QS. Yunus [10]: 98, QS. Al-Anbiyā' [21]: 87-88, QS. Al-Shaffāt [37]: 139-148, and QS. Al-Qalam [68]: 48-50. The research findings reveal four main wisdoms: patience as spiritual steadfastness with full awareness of Allah's decree, istiqamah as consistency in maintaining faith and righteous deeds, spiritual optimism through dhikr (remembrance) and conviction in Allah's help accompanied by willingness to go through the recovery process, and repentance as sincere acknowledgment of mistakes that serves as a mechanism for mental restoration. The relevance to modern life includes patience to overcome the fragile mental state of the younger generation, istiqamah as an antidote to the instant gratification culture, optimism that emphasizes the importance of the recovery process, and repentance as a spiritual solution to modern psychological crises. Tafsir Al-Mishbah interprets the story of Prophet Yunus as a transformative guide that integrates spiritual, psychological, and social dimensions, offering a balance between spiritual steadfastness and mental health to address contemporary challenges.
