Abstract
Amiruddin. (2025). An Analysis on Moral Values in the Wednesday Series on Netflix. Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah, State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Kediri. Advisors: (I) Bahruddin, S.S, M.Pd. and (II) Dewi Nur Suci, S.S., M.Pd. Keywords: Moral Values, Wednesday, Character Actions, Dialogue This research aims to analyze the moral values contained in the Wednesday series and how these values are represented through the actions and dialogues of the characters. Moral values are essential in shaping individuals' behavior, ethics, and decision-making. In the context of modern media, films and television series have become powerful platforms for presenting moral messages in ways that are both engaging and relatable. The Wednesday series, with its unique blend of mystery, dark comedy, and youth drama, provides a rich narrative for exploring such values. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with content analysis as the method. The data were obtained from selected scenes and dialogues across several episodes of the Wednesday series that highlight moral values. The analysis is guided by James Rachels’ (2023) theory, which identifies four key moral values such as courage, generosity, honesty, and loyalty. These categories were used as the basis for examining the moral behavior of the characters. The findings reveal that all four moral values are consistently reflected throughout the series. Wednesday demonstrates courage in the face of danger and injustice, Enid embodies generosity through her emotional support and kindness, honesty is shown in Wednesday’s direct and unfiltered communication style, and loyalty is reflected in the steadfast support of her close friends. These values contribute to the character development and provide ethical lessons that can resonate with young audiences. Pedagogically, this series has the potential to be used as a medium in English language learning and character education. Furthermore, this study contributes to the field of popular literature by showing how contemporary media can serve as a meaningful source of moral instruction.
