Siti, Nikmatus Solikah, A MORPHOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF COMPOUND WORDS IN "A DARK BROWN DOG" STORY by STEPHEN CRANE, THESIS, English Department, The Faculty of Education STAIN Kediri, 2016. Advisors: (1) Moh. Muhyidin, M.Pd, (2) Nur Khalida, M. Pd. Key Words: a morphological, compounds words, dark brown dog story Short story is a brief story to tell other people and actually used of children. Dark brown dog story used of Junior High School because this story has second difficulty level for the students. This study is intended to know what kind of compound words are used in Dark Brown Dog's story and what kind of compound words is mostly used, in order to have a better understanding towards the hidden meaning when we read the short story. The researcher chooses the short story since it is considered to be the most interesting story to the recent story and broad that the readers read it first. This research used descriptive qualitative research because the researcher describes the compound words used in Dark Brown Dog Story. The researcher analyzes the data based on the Maria Irene's theory about compound words that consist of four types of compound words. They are endocentric compound, exocentric compound, appositional compound and copulative compound. The results show that, there are four types of compound words prosed by Maria Irene, but are mostly used that is endocentric compound. With the percentage as follows: Endocentric compound 77.49 percent's, Exocentric and Copulative compound 27.06 percent's and then appositional compound 19.68 percent's. So, based on this result researcher knows the comparison from the classification. Finally, the researcher hopes this thesis will be useful for the English Department students and the other researchers. The researcher also expects that the other researchers will be interested in conducting a further research about sociolinguistics.
