Abstract
Fuadiyah, Afifatul, 2015. The Analysis of Expressive Illocutionary Speech Acts in BBM Status Produced by Students of STAIN Kediri. Keywords: speech act, BBM status, expressive, expressions Speech act is a term in linguistics and the philosophy of language referring to the way natural language performs actions, such as dialogues. The researcher analyzed the expressive illocutionary speech acts are used by students of STAIN Kediri in BBM status and how speech acts status are expressed by students of STAIN Kediri in BBM status. The purpose of this research is to know the example of speech act in updating BBM status especially in expressive category. The research design of this study is descriptive qualitative particularly in discourse analysis study. The object of this research is BBM status from students of STAIN Kediri who updated their status using English language. The research instrument is researcher herself. There are three steps in data analysis, firstly, identifying the data of illocutionary speech act in BBM status. Then, classifying expressive speech act into 11 categories and drawing conclusion. Finally, the researcher uses theory of triangulation for validating the analysis. Based on the result of this research, there are 11 kinds of expressive speech acts appeared in BBM status which were updated by students of STAIN Kediri, they are: hoping, mourning, thanking, congratulating, complimenting, greeting, apologizing, joking, disappointing, celebrating and asking. There are 50 statuses which were classified into 11 categories of expressive illocutionary speech acts, they are 7 statuses for hoping, greeting, disappointing and thanking; 5 statuses for mourning; 3 statuses for congratulating and complimenting; 4 statuses for celebrating, asking has 11 statuses; apologizing has 2 statuses and the last is welcoming which has 1 status. Most of them up dated BBM status when they have good psychological feeling because the great of the statuses show happy feeling. Students of STAIN Kediri expressed their speech act in BBM status by sentence types, they are declarative sentence, interrogative sentence, imperative sentence and exclamatory sentence. There are 13 statuses for declarative sentence, 11 statuses for interrogative sentence and 3 statuses for imperative sentence.
