Abstract

Retnosari, Fitria. 2015. Morphological order acquisition by second grade students of MTs N Kediri 2. English Department, Faculty of Education, State College for Islamic Studies (STAIN) Kediri. Advisors: 1) Toyyibah, SS, M.Pd. 2) Chothibul Umam, M.Pd. Key words: Morphological order acquisition, obligatory occasion analysis, narrative text English is a foreign language, when Indonesian students learn English sometimes they try to relate their native language with the target language in constructing sentences. It proposes that there are similarities between first and second language may enhance the language acquisition, whereas differences would cause difficulties. Due to its differences in the case of grammatical morpheme, the researcher intends to analyze students' morphological acquisition during learning English focuson plural markers, past regular and past irregular verb by second grade students of MTs N Kediri 2 that found in students' narrative text as the data source of this study. The research design of this study is descriptive qualitative research. The researcher took one excellent class as the subject in order it can be best representative for other schools related morphological acquisition. The instrument of this study is using test. The theory used to analyze the data is Obligatory Occasion Analysisincluding supplied, not supplied and overuse. Based on the finding and discussion, there are 280 occasion in each morphemes from 28 students as the subjects of the study. As the results, the plural markers got 62 percent, past regular 84.5 percent and past irregular 74.9 percent. It means that past regular has a higher percentage, then past irregular and the last is plural markers. Therefore, the past regular verb is automatically placed first in the order, the second is past irregular and the last is plural markers. The result of the data analysis above shows us that the second grade students of MTs N Kediri 2 still have difficulties in morphological process especially plural markers and past irregular verb. It may happen because Indonesia has different system to change singular noun to plural or present verb to past verb.
