Aisah, Anis Dwi 2015. An Analysis on the Ability of the Second Graders of SMAN I Gurah in Using Punctuation in Narrative Texts. Advisor: (1) Toyyibah, S.S.,M.Pd. and (II) Bahruddin, S.S., M.Pd. Key word: Ability, Punctuation, Narrative Texts. English is one of international languages. English has an important role in the developing world, such as in communication, changing information, research and study, technology, etc. Therefore people in the world are motivated to master English especially who consider it as the second language. They think if they do not master English, they will not be able to follow the development the world. However, the students often find some problems in their writing and ability. The problem in writing on using punctuation, most of the students did not care about the important of using punctuation. Because of it can influence the ability of using punctuation in writing activities. This study is conduct to find out the ability in using punctuation in narrative texts. To know its ability, it is used descriptive qualitative method, because in this study is attempt to investigate a phenomenon or try to describe and interpreting a real object. The study involved 34 students from second graders of SMA Negeri 1 Gurah Kediri. The data are collect through the test. The test is needed to get data about second graders ability (using punctuation). Then from those data are resulted in the finding that: the ability of the second graders in SMA Negeri 1 Gurah Kediri is lack especially in using hyphen the students only get the 36% to percentage the ability. However, the ability of the second graders in ranges fair category only 13 respondents the percentage is 38.22%. Because in good and poor category was in equal number that is only 9 respondents or 26.48%. Suggestion to English teachers of SMAN 1 Gurah, they should be aware of the importance of using punctuation. Moreover, they have to more attention in using punctuation. For other researchers, they can make a further research dealing with similar topic with a different research design.
